DIN84 Slotted Pan Head Screws

For assemblies where simple tooling, easy access, and a traditional fastening method are more important than high installation torque, DIN 84 offers a straightforward solution. Its pan-shaped head sits above the component surface and provides a stable bearing area, while the single slot can be engaged with a standard flat-blade screwdriver. The design is particularly useful for equipment covers, electrical panels, light sheet-metal assemblies, instrument components, and general mechanical parts that may require occasional removal. The raised pan head also makes the screw easy to identify and access during maintenance.

Depending on the service environment, DIN 84 screws can be supplied in stainless steel or steel with suitable surface finishes. Stainless steel is a practical option for moisture or corrosion exposure, while steel versions can be selected for general indoor equipment and cost-sensitive applications. A slotted drive is not intended to compete with high-torque drives such as hexagon socket or Torx. Instead, its value lies in simple access and compatibility with basic hand tools, making DIN 84 a useful choice for specific assembly and maintenance applications.

Specification:

DIN 84 screws are specified by their thread size, screw length, head dimensions, slot geometry, material, and surface finish. The standard design uses a pan head with a straight slotted drive and metric thread, making the fastener suitable for conventional hand-tool assembly. Available materials and finishes can be selected according to the application, including stainless steel for corrosion resistance and steel options for general mechanical assembly. Dimensional requirements can also be produced according to customer drawings where a modified specification is required.

Drive & Installation

The straight slot is designed for installation with a conventional flat-blade screwdriver. Because the drive has limited resistance to cam-out compared with modern recessed drives, the correct screwdriver width and proper alignment are important during installation.

Selection Note: DIN 84 is a good option where simple hand-tool access is required. For applications involving higher tightening torque or frequent power-tool installation, a screw with a more torque-resistant drive may be preferable.

Dimension Chart of DIN84 Slotted Pan Head Screws:

The dimension chart covers the main measurements used to select DIN 84 screws, including thread diameter, screw length, head diameter, head height, and slot dimensions. Screw length should be selected according to the thickness of the components being joined and the required thread engagement. DIN 84 is the traditional designation corresponding to ISO 1207 / DIN EN ISO 1207, which specifies slotted cheese head screws of product grade A. For special assemblies, non-standard dimensions can be supplied according to customer drawings.

Application of DIN84 Slotted Pan Head Screws:

Equipment Panels & Enclosures

DIN 84 screws are suitable for equipment panels, electrical enclosures, control boxes, covers, and light sheet-metal assemblies where a simple slotted drive provides sufficient fastening performance. The pan-style head also provides a stable bearing surface on the assembled component.

Instrumentation & Precision Equipment

The compact design makes DIN 84 suitable for instrument housings, measuring equipment, control devices, optical equipment, and small mechanical assemblies where a clean, accessible fastening point is required.

General Mechanical & Electrical Assembly

DIN 84 can be used in small machinery, electrical components, brackets, hardware assemblies, and fabricated parts where conventional screwdriver installation is preferred and high tightening torque is not the primary requirement.
